History of Nechells At Wing Yip Centre
Mr. Wing Yip arrived from Hong Kong in spring 1959 and soon began
work in the restaurant industry.
In 1969, identifying a gap in the market for authentic Oriental
products Mr. Yip opened his first specialist Chinese grocery
store in Birmingham with his brother Sammy who bought with him
the expertise and knowledge he had gained of the hotel and catering
industry in Hong Kong.
At the head office development in Birmingham there is a Chinese
doctor, dentist, accountant, solicitors, travel agents, printers
hair dresser and the Bank of East Asia The truly one-stop complex
is complemented by on-site dinning in the 250 seater Wing Wah
Chinese Restaurant with ample free parking.
The store is designed to maximise customer’s benefits and the company
prides itself on delivering a high level service to the trade & public.

gift to the City and people of Birmingham
A prominent feature just outside Birmingham China Town, situated on one of
the gateway entrance to-the city centre, is a Pagoda.
This piece of art was
hand craved from solid granite which was created in China and stands 40 feet
tall, was generously presented to the citizens of Birmingham by Wing Yip and
his brothers as a gesture of thanks to the City that enabled their business
to become a success and provide a home for their families.

Wing Wah is the only Chinese Restaurant at Wing Yip Centre
Birmingham It was in London’ where’ Mr Wing Yip had spotted the talents of Mr.
Kin Bong Lam, the founder of Wing Wah.
Mr. Wing Yíp would dine at
the restaurant where Mr Lam worked whenever he’ was in London When
the Birmingham development was being built, Mr. Wing Yip thought of bring
his favorite chef to Birmingham so that he can enjoy his food in his own
town.
